Volleyball Travels On The Road To Omaha For League Matchup

MACOMB, Ill.-
The Western Illinois volleyball team (6-17) competes on the road in Omaha, Neb. as the Leathernecks face the Mavericks (7-14) Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The Leathernecks look to stop a 5-match skid and pickup another Summit League win.
 
A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
The Leathernecks come into the match after being topped by Oral Roberts on Oct. 22. Offensively, WIU is led by Mackenzie Steckler with 194 kills and freshman Emma Norris, who has notched 181. Jaime Johnson touts 719 assists on the year, good for 8.26 per set.
 
On the defensive side of the net, Claire Grove has recorded a team-high 358 (4.31 digs per set), followed by Shalyn Greenhaw with 261 (3.39 per set). Steckler leads the team in total blocks, with 82, and solo blocks, with 14. Emilee Dechant has logged 75 total blocks and nine solo blocks.
 
AMONG THE TOP:
The Leathernecks are well represented in the 'Top 5' in many statistical categories in The Summit League. Grove is in third with 358 digs and her 4.31 digs per set is fourth in the conference.  Steckler's impressive hitting percentage of .325 is fourth in the conference and Johnson's 8.26 assists per set is fifth in the league.
 
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS:
The Mavericks come into the match after a win over South Dakota State in Sapp Fieldhouse in Omaha, Neb., for the fourth win in the Summit League for the squad. Claire Mountjoy anchors the back line for the Mavericks with 4.59 digs per set. Abby Bergsten leads the team with 171 kills.
 
The last time the two teams met on Sept. 29, Omaha took the match 3-1 in Western Hall.
 
UP NEXT:
After the bout with the Mavericks, the Leathernecks conclude regular season road play in Brookings, S.D. against South Dakota State. The last time the teams met, Western won 3-2. The match is set for Nov. 4 with first serve at 6 p.m.
