MACOMB, Ill.— Western Illinois concludes the regular season with a Thursday (Oct. 26) Summit League road match at Omaha. The first kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT).
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Western Illinois fell 5-0 on the road at Denver to drop to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in league play. Western Illinois almost took a one-goal lead right of the bat in the third minute, but Madeline Edwards' shot hit the post. Lauryn Peters was there for the rebound shot, but it was saved by the keeper.
 
The Leathernecks fell behind in the seventh minute off a goal by the Pioneers' Hannah Adler. The next two goals came in the 41st and 44th minutes, respectively, just before halftime. Down 3-0 at the half, the Leathernecks had a scoring opportunity in the 52nd minute when Natlalie Sielaff's shot was saved, followed by corner kicks in the 65th and 74th minutes.
 
Denver was able to net a pair of goals (75', 80') to close out the match at 5-0. The Leathernecks were led by the shots on goal from Sielaff, Peters and Ashley Kuhlmann, while Ines Palmiero Herrera and Jennifer Currie recorded seven and two saves, respectfully.
 
A LOOK AT THE LEATHERNECKS:
Emily Bollman and Bianca Romay both lead the team with three goals and one assist apiece for seven points thus far this season. Madeline Edwards has a team-high 18 shots on goal this year, Natalie Nagle and Lauryn Peters are tied for second on the squad with 11 each.
 
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS:
Omaha is currently 4-10-1 this season and 1-4-0 in league play. The team's lone Summit League win was a 1-0 victory over Fort Wayne (Sept. 28). The Leathernecks also have a win over Fort Wayne back on Oct. 8 by the same score.
 
The team is led by Abby Meader, who has three goals and one assist for a team-high seven points. Natalie Johnson ranks second on the team with six points off three goals. In the all-time series, the Leathernecks lead 4-2-0 overall. Western defeated the Mavericks on Oct. 16, 2016 of last season by a score of 1-0. The Leathernecks have won four of the last five meetings.
