MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois plays host to the IUPUI Jaguars this Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 7 p.m in Summit League action. The game also marks Military Appreciation Night. The Leathernecks are currently third in league standings, while the Jaguars rank fourth.
MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT:
All military members are granted free admission for this Wednesday's game against IUPUI for "Military Appreciation Night." Senior forward Jasmine Patrick served five years of active duty with the United States Navy prior to her time with Western Illinois.
LAST MEETING:
Blumer's 17 points and eight rebounds paced Western Illinois in the 66-52 loss at IUPUI (Dec. 31). Clemens followed with eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Farrow also had eight points to go with two assists.
IUPUI was led by Sydney Hall's 22 points (7-for-8 from three), followed by Mikale Rogers' double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks. Danielle Lawrence recorded 16 points, six rebounds and five assists and Jenna Gunn also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
AROUND THE SUMMIT LEAGUE:
This season through 20 contests, Western Illinois leads The Summit League in scoring offense (80.5 points per game), steals (242/sixth nationally), steals per game (12.1/14th nationally), assists (364/13th nationally), assists per game (18.2) and blocks per game (4.7).
From a shooting standpoint, Western Illinois tops the league in 3-pointers made (185/eighth nationally) and 3-pointers made per game (9.3/seventh nationally).
Emily Clemens ranks first in the league in assists, assists per game, steals and minutes. Her 18.7 points per game put her second in the league. Behind Clemens, Mallory Boyle and Morgan Blumer rank second and third in The Summit League with 2.9 and 2.2 steals per game. Olivia Braun leads the league in blocks per game with 2.9. She is 12th nationally with 58 total blocks thus far.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS:
IUPUI sits at 14-6 overall with a 4-3 mark in league action. Danielle Lawrence leads the program with 15.7 points per game, while Mikale Rogers averages a team-best 7.3 rebounds per contest. Kelsi Byrd is the leading facilitator, with 2.7 assists per game.
Holly Hoopingarner and Sydney Hall rank first and second in 3-point field goal percentage for The Summit League, shooting 50.0 and 49.0 percent respectively. The Jaguars, as a team, also shoot a league-best 38.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Austin Parkinson is in his seventh year as the head coach of IUPUI, with a 110-98 career record (all with the Jaguars).
SERIES HISTORY VS. IUPUI:
Western Illinois is looking to snap a four-game skid to the Jaguars, but lead the all-time series 25-17. The Jaguars have won nine out of the last 11 matchups.
