WIU Plays Host To Bowling Green Saturday

The Leathernecks take on the Falcons in the 2016 home opener.

MACOMB, Ill. - The Leathernecks play host to Bowling Green Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. for the first home match of the season. The home opener will also mark the first of three straight home matches for the men's soccer team.

A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:

Western Illinois plays its first home match this season after opening the year with four straight road matches. The Leathernecks are led by a trio of players with three points this season. Jacob Bevan, Daniel Collins and Armel Kouassi all have one goal and one assist this season. Fernando Pacheco has two points this season, netting a goal on five shots.

In goal, freshman Tim Trilk has started the first four matches, totaling 11 saves on the season. Fellow freshman Tim Hansen has also seen playing time, recording four saves in 74:49 minutes against Valparaiso. Head coach Eric Johnson will aim for his 201st career win Saturday.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS:

Bowling Green sits at 4-0 on the season, with victories over IUPUI (4-0), Appalachian State (3-1), Marshall (3-0) and Cleveland State (1-0). The Falcons have played three matches at home and one on the road. Western Illinois will mark their second straight road match.

The Falcons are led by Pat Flynn, who has seven points on the season with two goals and three assists. His teammate Chris Brennan has six points (team-leading three goals) this season.

Eric Nichols is in his eighth season as head coach of the BGSU men's soccer team, with a 57-60-20 overall record.

SERIES HISTORY:
Western Illinois trails the all-time series 1-3-1 (.300). The Leathernecks last faced the Falcons in 2015, falling 4-1 at Bowling Green (Aug. 30).

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Leathernecks return to action Tuesday, Sept. 13 for their second straight home match against Mount Mercy at 5 p.m. Western then plays four days later (Sept. 17) against Kansas City at 1 p.m. to cap off the three-match home stretch.
