Western Illinois Preps for Green Bay

The Leathernecks take on the Phoenix Wednesday, Sept. 27.

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck men's soccer program plays host to Green Bay Wednesday (Sept. 28) at 4 p.m. It will be the first of three straight matches at John MacKenzie Alumni Field for the Leathernecks.

A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois is coming off a 2-0 win over IUPUI in their Summit League opener last Friday, Sept. 23. In that match, Jacob Bevan scored his sixth goal this year and Ben Fiddes recorded his first goal of the season. Bevan leads The Summit League in goals (6) and points (14).

Fernando Pacheco currently ranks second on the team with nine points this season off three goals and three assists, followed by Daniel Collins with seven points (two goals, three assists).

In net, goalkeeper Tim Hansen tops The Summit League in save percentage (.818) and goals against (6). The freshman has a 1.03 goals against average and has recorded 27 saves on 62 shots faced this season. He is 4-2 overall.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX: 
The Phoenix sit at 1-7 overall with a 1-2 mark in the Horizon League. Their lone win came against Wright State on Sept. 10 (1-0). They have losses against Missouri State (0-2), Central Arkansas (0-5), Eastern Illinois (0-2), Fort Wayne (1-2), Drake (1-2), Oakland (0-2) and UIC (0-1). The match against Western Illinois marks the first of four straight road matches for Green Bay.

Andre Barnes leads Green Bay with two goals (four points) in eight matches played. The Phoenix are coached by Jeremy Bonomo, who is in his second year with the program.

HOME STAND:
Western Illinois sits undefeated at 3-0 overall in home matches this season. This is Western's best start at home since 2004 (5-0 start). That 2004 team went on to finish 7-1 at home.

SERIES HISTORY: 
Western Illinois trails the all-time series against Green Bay 11-16-3. The last meeting between the two resulted in a 1-1 tie on Sept. 6, 2015.

LOOKING AHEAD: 
The Leathernecks play their second and third straight home matches on Tuesday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 8. Western takes on Milwaukee, followed by its second Summit League match against Oral Roberts.
