MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois plays host to in-state rival Eastern Illinois this Saturday (Dec. 10) as part of a double-header with the men's program. The men's basketball team also plays EIU this Saturday at 2 p.m., and the women follow at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
For the first time this season, Western Illinois had five players score in double figures in the last game against Graceland. The 118-40 win also marked multiple program numbers, such as 46 made field goals (second-highest in program history for a single game), 14 3-point made field goals ties (eighth all-time in program history), 63 rebounds in a single-game (ties for third all time), 33 assists (ties for fourth all time), 118 points (third-highest number points recorded in a single game) and the third-largest margin of victory in program history.
Two-time Summit League Player of the Week Emily Clemens also extended her streak to 10 games of recording double-digit scoring, which also marks the 25th time in her career. She is also tied for first in the nation with 71 total assists thus far (as of Dec. 8).
The Leathernecks sit at 7-3 overall, and close out the non-league season playing host to Eastern Illinois, a road trip to Chicago State (Dec. 17), capped off by another home contest against Illinois State (Dec. 20). Summit League play opens Dec. 28 at Fort Wayne.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS:
The Panthers sit at 4-6 overall with wins over Millikin (97-54), at Evansville (73-63), at Florida A&M (66-50) and Illinois-Springfield (74-60). They have losses to Wright State (61-71), at Stetson (55-72), Indiana State (61-88), Illinois State (49-60), at Valparaiso (68-73) and Cleveland State (56-66).
Head Coach Debbie Black is in her fourth season at the helm of the program, with a 25-61 career record. The Panthers were picked 12th in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference Polls.
The Panthers currently have four players averaging double-figures in scoring in Grace Lennox (12.5), Erica Brown (11.2), Allison Van Dyke (10.9) and Jalisha Smith (10.3).
SERIES HISTORY:
Eastern Illinois leads the all-time series 33-20. Western has won the last two meetings, and five out of the last seven.
