Western Illinois Faces IUPUI In Summit League Weekend Matchup

The Leathernecks look to extend their winning streak to seven games at IUPUI.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on the IUPUI Jaguars in its second Summit League contest of the season Saturday (Dec. 31) at 2:30 p.m. (CT).

A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois is coming off a 75-53 win at Fort Wayne on Wednesday, Dec. 28. The Leathernecks had five score in double figures for the third time this season. With the win, Western is now on a six-game win streak for the first time since 2007-08. A win over IUPUI would mark the Leathernecks' seventh straight victory, a feat that has not been accomplished since the 2005-06 season (won 10 consecutive games).

SUMMIT LEAGUE & NATIONAL RANKINGS:
As of Dec. 29, Emily Clemens ranks fourth in the nation with 98 total assists, which also puts her atop The Summit League in that category. She also ranks 10th nationally in assists per game with 7.2. Her 19.4 points per game is second-best in the league. Olivia Braun ranks second in The Summit League in total blocks (27) this season.

CLEMENS MOVING UP THE RANKS:
Emily Clemens surpassed the 300 assist mark in Western's win over Fort Wayne in its Summit League opener. She is now the ninth Leatherneck in program history to record at least 300 assists in her career. She is also two assists away from 100 this season.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS:
IUPUI sits at 10-3 overall and makes its Summit League debut against Western Illinois this Saturday. They have two wins over Power-Five opponents this season, first against Missouri (73-45) and then against Purdue (67-62). Most recently, the Jaguars are coming off an 89-36 win over IU-Northwest of the NAIA.

The Jaguars are led by three players that score in double figures. Danielle Lawrence averages 15.2 points per contest, while Mikale Rogers and Sydney Hall average 13.8 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Rogers is also a two-time Summit League Player the Week this season. She recently eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in her career and tallied a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds against Purdue. Rogers also tops The Summit League in blocks (30) and blocks per game (2.3). She is also 16th in the nation in blocked shots and 24th in blocks per game.

The Jaguars are led by head coach Austin Parkinson, who is in seventh season with the program with a 106-95. Last season, the Jaguars made it to the Second Round of the WNIT.

SERIES HISTORY:
Western Illinois leads the all-time series 26-15. The Jaguars have had the edge in the most recent meetings, sweeping last season's meetings 68-60 and 96-87. IUPUI has won the last three meetings and eight of the last 10.
 
In the most recent meeting, the Jaguars' Danielle Lawerence recorded 34 points and six assists in the 96-87 win. Rogers had 24 points and four rebounds. Western Illinois was led by Sophie Reichelt's 22 points and eight rebounds. Four other Leathernecks reached double figures in Emily Clemens (15), Michelle Maher (15), Taylor Hanneman (12) and Taylor Higginbotham (10).
