Leathernecks Travel To Chicago State For Road Matchup

Western Illinois plays the Cougars Saturday (Dec. 17) at 2 p.m.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's basketball takes on Chicago State on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Leathernecks' final non-conference road matchup this season. Western has two more non-conference home contests before opening Summit League play on Dec. 28.

A LOOK AT THE LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois is 8-3 overall and off to its best start since the 2005-06 season. Most recently, the Leathernecks defeated Eastern Illinois 83-62 on Dec. 10 to improve to 5-0 at home.

The game also marked back-to-back games with five players scoring in double figures. It also marked the second straight game Western hit 10 or more three pointers in a single contest.

As of Thursday (Dec.15), junior point guard Emily Clemens ranks second in Division I with 80 total assists through 11 games. She is ninth nationally in assists per game (7.3) and 10th in total steals (34) this season. Clemens also earned Summit League Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 12, which marked the third time in five weeks she has received player of the week honors.

Western's last game also marked head coach JD Gravina's 195th career win.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
Chicago State sits at 0-9 overall, most recently falling 71-49 at Milwaukee. Sh'Toya Sanders leads the team with 16.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.2 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.
 
Kaylee Allen is second on the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. Head coach Angela Jackson is in her 14th season at the helm of the program.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Western Illinois leads the all-time series 33-2, most recently winning 88-50 on Nov. 21 of last season.
