MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks cap off their four-game road slate with a Friday (Dec. 2) matchup at Marquette. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois (5-2) is coming off a road matchup at Missouri, where it fell by a close 71-68 margin. In that game, the Leathernecks had three reach double-digit scoring in Taylor Higginbotham (19), Morgan Blumer (18) and Emily Clemens (15).
Clemens also had four assists against Tigers, which moves her to third nationally with 49 total assists (7.0 per game). The Leathernecks are also 15th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 83.7 points per game as a team. Defensively, Western ranks 17th in turnovers forced, with 23.14 per game. The Leathernecks have forced 162 opponent turnovers this season.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Marquette is 5-1 overall, with wins over Longwood (87-37), Saint Francis (PA) (104-91), Arizona State (75-63), Oregon State (74-73) and Pacific (89-75). Their lone loss is to Santa Clara (65-62) on Nov. 25.
Allazia Blockton leads Marquette, averaging 20.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds. Erika Davenport is averaging a double-double of 15.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, followed by Natisha Hiedeman, who averages 13.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
As a team, the Golden Eagles rank 20th nationally in scoring offense.
Carolyn Kieger is in her season with the program, with a 21-17 record at Marquette. As a player at Marquette, she started all four years, spent three seasons as a captain and is MU's all-time assists leader. She is the only player in program history with at least 1,200 career points, 400 career rebounds and 600 assists.
