Western Illinois Travels To SEMO For Midweek Road Game

The Leathernecks take on the Redhawks this Wednesday (Nov. 16)

MACOMB, Ill.- The Fighting Leatherneck women's basketball program travels to Cape Girardeau, Mo. For its second straight regular season road game at Southeast Missouri State University. This will be the third regular season game for the Leathernecks.

A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois sits at 1-1 overall early in the non-league season. The Purple and Gold fell at Milwaukee 76-68 last Sunday (Nov. 13). The Leathernecks saw three score in double figures. Emily Clemens recorded a team-high 19 points, while Morgan Blumer had a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, which was also her first career double-double. Olivia Braun was the third Leatherneck to reach double-digit scoring, totaling 11 points.
 
Through two contests, Western Illinois has four players averaging double figures in scoring in Clemens (16.0), Blumer (14.5), Taylor Hanneman (14.5) and Taylor Higginbotham (12.5). Braun is fourth on the team, averaging 9.5 points through two games.
 
Western Illinois plays five out of its next six games on the road. Looking ahead, WIU returns home this Saturday (Nov. 19) for a home game against Northern Illinois, followed by a four-game road slate at Kansas City (Nov. 22), SIU-Edwardsville (Nov. 27), Missouri (Nov. 29), and Marquette (Dec. 2).
 
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS:
SEMO also sits at 1-1 overall. The Redhawks opened the season (Nov. 11) at home against Cincinnati, falling 83-75. Their first regular season victory came against Hannibal LaGrange, where they won 99-52 at home.
 
Western Illinois marks the third straight opponent SEMO plays host to in the regular season.
 
Olivia Hackmann averages a team-high 29.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in one game this season. The program also returns three starters (nine total) this season, along with six newcomers. The Redhawks return Bri Mitchell, who earned Second Team All-OVC Honors last season. She averages 9.0 points per game through two games this season.
 
Head coach Rekha Patterson is in her second season with the Redhawks, totaling a 16-16 career record. SEMO finished fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference standings for 2015-16, totaling a 15-15 overall record and an 8-8 mark in league play.   
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Western Illinois trails the all-time series 5-4. In their last meeting (Nov. 24, 2015), the Leathernecks fell by five points (89-84) to the Redhawks in Western Hall. Prior to that, Western won two straight over SEMO. WIU has won two of the last three, and three of the last six meetings.
