Leathernecks Face SDSU, NDSU For Weekend Road Matches

Western Illinois travels for a pair of Summit League road matches this weekend.

MACOMB, Ill. – The Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer program hits the road for a pair of Summit League matches at South Dakota State on Friday (Oct. 7) at 6 p.m., and North Dakota State Sunday (Oct. 9) at 1 p.m. 

A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS: 
Western Illinois sits at 3-7-1 overall, with a 1-1 mark in Summit League Play. The Leathernecks are coming off a 1-0 win over South Dakota last Sunday, Oct. 2.

Both Emily Bollman and Bianca Romay lead the team with four points, as they have two goals each this season. In goal, Jennifer Currie has started the past three matches. She currently has 14 saves this season with a shutout, and a 1.11 goals allowed average and .737 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS:
South Dakota State is 6-4-1 with a 1-0 mark in Summit League action. The Jackrabbits most recently defeated Fort Wayne 1-0 on Oct. 1. They are led by Nicole Hatcher, who has two goals and six assists this season with 10 points.

In goal, Maggie Smither leads The Summit League in save percentage (.957) and goals against average (0.21). She has allowed one goal this season. In his 17th season at the helm of the program is Lang Wedemeyer.

SCOUTING THE BISON:
The Bison are currently 7-5 overall with a 2-0 mark in Summit League play. They have wins over Omaha (2-0) and Oral Roberts (1-0). North Dakota State takes on South Dakota Friday, Oct. 7 prior to their matchup against the Leathernecks on Sunday.

Holly Enderle leads the team and The Summit League with seven goals this season. She ranks second in the league in points with 15. Mark Cook is currently in his fifth season as head coach of the women's soccer program.

SERIES HISTORY: 
Western Illinois trails the all-time series 1-9-1 against South Dakota State. The Leathernecks will look for their first win over the Jackrabbits since Oct. 11, 2007.

North Dakota state edges the Leathernecks 6-5-1 in the all-time series. The past two matches have gone past regulation. Western Illinois defeated the Bison 2-1 in overtime on the road two years ago (Oct. 3, 2014), and fell 1-0 in overtime last season at home (Nov. 1, 2015).
