Western Illinois Plays Fort Wayne To 0-0 Draw

The Leatherneck women's soccer program tied the Mastodons on the road.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Western Illinois women's soccer program played to a 0-0 draw at Fort Wayne in double-overtime on Oct. 21.

The Leathernecks (4-9-2) had four shots within the first 15 minutes but were not able to find the back of the net. After a scoreless first half, Western saw its best chance to strike first after Lilly Butler's shot hit the post in the 79th minute of regulation.

In the final minute of regulation, Fort Wayne's Chloee Foor had a shot on goal, but Jennifer Currie was there for the save to force the match into overtime. After both teams went scoreless through both overtime periods, the match ended in a 0-0 tie.

"It was a very good defensive game for our team tonight and we also created some chances to score," said Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson. "We also created some chances to score and hit the post late in the second half. It was a very good effort and glad to get a point with the tie. We will need to regroup and try to find a way to win on Sunday."

In net, Jennifer Currie recorded a career-high eight saves, passing her previous of six on Oct. 7 at South Dakota State.

Individually, Emily Bollman recorded four shots with three on goal, followed by Ashley Kuhlmann with three shots and one on goal. Madeline Edwards also had three shots in the match.

The Leathernecks stay on the road and close out the weekend slate at IUPUI this Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon for another Summit League match.
