Men's Basketball Continues League Play at Home Versus IUPUI

The Leathernecks and Jaguars are slated to tipoff at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 9).

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois men's basketball (7-6, 0-2) will look to end its four-game losing skid at home when the Leathernecks continue Summit League play on Saturday (Jan. 9) at home against IUPUI (6-12, 2-1)...  The two teams are slated to tipoff at 2 p.m inside Western Hall... Fans can watch live on The Leatherneck Sports Network... Fans can also listen to Voice of the Leathernecks Scott Kornberg call the action live online at WRMSFM.com.

KIDS DAY: All kids 12 & under will receive a free general admission ticket to Saturday's (Jan. 9) doubleheader against IUPUI for Western Illinois' annual Kids Day. The men tip off the twin bill inside Western Hall at 2 p.m. followed by the women's contest at 4:30... Kids will have the opportunity to meet Rocky and the Western Illinois cheerleaders throughout the afternoon. LEATHERNECKS VS. JAGUARS SERIES HISTORY: IUPUI leads the all-time series 29-14... Prior to the Leathernecks winning six of the last seven meetings over the last four seasons, IUPUI had won 26-of-27 from 2000 to 2011... LAST FOUR GAMES: Western Illinois has dropped its last four outings, but all of the games came down to the end, as the Leathernecks were outscored by a total of 18 points during the stretch... The Leathernecks lost at Chicago State by seven (77-70), at Loyola by five (72-67), at Omaha by two (82-80), and at South Dakota State by four (63-59).

AS FULLER GOES?: In Western's wins J.C. Fuller averages 18.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, and shoots 51.7% (45-87) from the field and 57.1% (16-28) from long range... In WIU's losses J.C. Fuller averages 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists, and shoots 31.6% (24-76) from the field and 32.3% (10-31) from long range... Meaning Fuller averages 8.0 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.3 assists per game more in WIU victories.

STENSGAARD ON FIRE: Senior forward Tate Stensgaard is having the best year of his career so far, and has been on fire as of late from the field... Heading into this season Stensgaard's career high in scoring was 14 points... In WIU's two league games this year, the senior forward has had outings of 26 points (at Omaha) and 15 points (at SDSU)... For his career he has averaged 6.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 60.8 percent (144-237) from the field... This season he is averaging 8.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season while shooting 70.1 percent (47-67) from the field...  During the last two games, Stensgaard is averaging a team-high 20.5 points per game and is shooting 19-of-24 (79.2%) from the field... Through the teams' last five games Stensgaard is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game... During that stretch he grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds (vs. EIU).

ROAD RAGE: Western is 2-6 so far this season on the road... WIU is 16-48 (.250) on the road since the beginning of the 2011-12 season, and 1-26 (.037) in the last two seasons... The Leathernecks went 6-10 (.375) in 2011-12, they were above .500 in 2012-13 with a 7-6 (.538) road mark, struggled again during the 2013-14 season with a 1-13 (.071) record on the road, and went 0-13 (.000) in 2014-15.

HOME SWEET HOME: Western is 42-17 (.712) inside Western Hall since the beginning of the 2011-12 season... The Leathernecks went 10-4 (.714) during their 2011-12 campaign, 12-2 (.857) during the 2012-13 league slate, 7-5 in 2013-14 (.583), 8-6 (.571) in 2014-15, and are 5-0 (100.0) so far this season on LeRoy A. Ufkes Court inside Western Hall.

THE LAST TIME OUT: South Dakota State used a 7-0 run midway through the second half to give the Jackrabbits their first lead of the game, on its way to a 63-59 Summit League victory over Western Illinois men's basketball Sunday afternoon (Jan. 3) inside Frost Arena... The Leathernecks grabbed the lead early and led by as much as 11 points in the first half... South Dakota State slowly chipped away at WIU's five-point halftime advantage until the Jackrabbits grabbed their first lead of the game, 49-47, with 8:53 to play in the game... The two teams then exchanged baskets, and the lead, until the Jackrabbits worked their way to their largest lead of the game, four points, with 1:50 to play... WIU was able to cut its deficit to one point after junior guard Garret Covington made three free throws, but the Jackrabbits were able to connect on free throws of their down the stretch on their way to their third consecutive victory.
