Biography

SENIOR (2016-17): Earned All-Summit League Second Team Honors... Was tabbed the league’s ‘Player of the Week’ on Jan. 9... Finished his career #3 all-time in career points (1,896) at WIU and 1st during the program's DI era... Also finished #1 all-time in 3-pointers made at Western (296)... Played in and started all 28 games for WIU... Led the team in almost every category... Averaged 34.8 minutes, 19.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game... Shot .415 from the field (178-429), .377 from three (86-228) and .878 form the free throw line (115-131)... Scored 10-plus points in all but four games, and scored 20-plus points in 15 games... Scored 30-plus in four games including a career-high at home versus Fort Wayne (Feb. 25)... Grabbed a season-high nine rebounds at home versus Chicago State (Dec. 3)... Dished out a season-high seven assists three times throughout the season.

JUNIOR (2015-16): Earned All-Summit League Second Team Honors... Was tabbed the league’s ‘Player of the Week’ on November 16... Selected to represent The Summit League in the NCAA's Leadership Forum in Phoenix, Ariz. (April 7-10)... One of two players to start in all 27 games for WIU... Averaged a team-high 33.7 minutes per game... Led the team and ranked fourth in The Summit League in scoring (17.9 points per game)... He also led the team in three-pointers (77), free throws (88), field goals (159) and defensive rebounds (99)... He averaged 4.1 rebounds per game overall, and 2.0 assists per game as well... Tallied 23 steals and five blocks... Shots 44.4 percent (159-358) from the field, 42.3 percent from three (77-182), and 79.3 from the free throw line (88-111)... Had 10-plus points in 26 of the team's 27 games... His season high in points was 26... He scored 26 at Eastern Illinois (Nov. 21) and vs. Fort Wayne (Feb. 25)... He scored 20-plus points in 11 games... In his lone game with under 10 points (9), he grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds... Dished out a season-high four assists four times.

SOPHOMORE (2014-15): Earned All-Summit League Second Team Honors... Was tabbed the league’s ‘Player of the Week’ on December 15... Named 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' (Dec. 15)... Only player on the roster to play in and start all 28 games... Averaged a team-high 33.0 minutes per game... His 15.5 points per game was a team-best and ranked fourth in the league... He also led the team in field goals (135), three-pointers (63), free throws (101), free throw percentage (.828), defenseive rebounds (113), steals (31)... He also averaged 4.3 rebounds per game which ranked tied for third on the team... Averaged 2.3 assists per game, which ranked second on the team... His 2.3 triples per game average ranked third in the league... Scored 10-plus points in 21 games, 15-plus in 15 of those games, 20-plus in five games, and 30-plus in two... Scored a career-high 31 at home against South Dakota State (Feb. 18) where he made 13-of-17 shots from the field... Had two 10-plus rebound games and one double-double... Tied a program record by making six consecutive three-pointers at home against Idaho (Dec. 11).

FRESHMAN (2013-14): Named The Summit League's 'Newcomer of the Year'... Earned All-Summit League Second Team Honors... Was a member of the league's All-Newcomer Team...Was tabbed the league’s ‘Player of the Week’ on January 6... Named 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' (Feb. 3)... Played in 29 games for Western, started 27 of them... Averaged a team-best 32.9 minutes per game... Averaged a team-best 14.6 points per game (422 total), 4.7 rebounds per game, which ranks tied for second on the team, 1.9 assists per game, and 1.0 steal per game... Shot 130-of-315 (41.3%) from the field, 70-of-181 from the three-point line (38.7%), a team best, and 92-of-115 (80%) from the free throw line which is also a team best... Led the team in triples (70), field goals (130), and free throws (92)... Recorded first career double-double versus Grace Bible (Dec. 7) with 15 points and season-high 11 rebounds; also had a season-best six assists versus Grace Bible... Had five games with 20-plus points, and 22 with 10-plus points (team-best).... Scored a career-high 26 points against William & Mary (Jan. 4), while scoring 22 points in WIU’s season-opening game at Idaho (Nov. 9) and at SE Louisiana (Nov. 26)... Also knocked down a career-best five triples versus William & Mary... Connected on at least one triple in 26 games during the year, and finished the season having made a triple in 16 straight contests.

HIGH SCHOOL: Led Edwardsville High School to IHSA Class 4A third place trophy in 2012-13... Named First Team All-State by Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and Second Team All-State by the Associated Press... Selected Male Athlete of the Winter by the Edwardsville Intelligencer... Averaged 18.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game as a senior, and shot 105-for-199 (.528) on 3-pointers... Led Edwardsville in scoring (17.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg) as a junior leading his team to the IHSA Class 4A Supersectionals... Finished career as Edwardsville's fifth all-time leading scorer... Set record for most 3-pointers made in a season (105).

PERSONAL: Son of Mart and Arlene Covington... Born 10/31/1994... Lists his family as a major influence because "they always encourage me to be my best and to always have fun and to get better everyday."... Athlete he admires most is Dwyane Wade... "I like how he leads his team and shows up when the team needs him most."... Favorite professional sports team is the Miami Heat... Lists chess, video games, singing, and tennis as hobbies... Sister, Anya Covington, is a member of the University of Wisconsin women's basketball team.
