Saint Louis, Valparaiso On Tap for Women's Soccer

Western Illinois travels to Saint Louis before playing host to Valparaiso beginning Friday (Sept. 5).

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois women's soccer (1-3) aims to bounce back following a pair of losses to Loyola-Chicago and Creighton. The Fighting Leathernecks travel to Saint Louis to play on Friday (Sept. 5) at 7 p.m. before returning to Macomb for a Sunday (Sept. 7) contest against Valparaiso. 

Western ends a three-game road swing on Friday (Sept. 5) at Saint Louis before playing four of the next five matches in Macomb. The home stretch begins Sunday (Sept. 7) when the Leathernecks play host to the Crusaders of Valparaiso as part of a doubleheader at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. The men take the field for a noon start against Green Bay, while the women play at 3:30 p.m.

A LOOK AT THE BILLIKENS: Saint Louis enters the weekend 2-2 after a 2-1 loss to Iowa State... The Billikens defeated Evansville and Drake for its two wins this season... Friday's match marks the home opener for Saint Louis... Kirsten Clemens has scored three of the team's nine goals this season while adding an assist... Clemens leads the team with seven points... Lindsay Elking adds two goals and an assist while Tori Marshall has scored twice through four matches as well... Hanna Benben has started every match in goal for Saint Louis... Through 358 minutes, Benben has conceded seven goals while making 19 saves... Tristin Stuteville has logged five minutes in goal... SERIES HISTORY: The Fighting Leathernecks and Billikens meet for the fourth time... Western Illinois is 0-3 all-time against Saint Louis... The two programs have not met since 2003, a 2-0 victory for Saint Louis in Macomb.

A LOOK AT THE CRUSADERS: Valparaiso plays host to Ball State on Friday (Sept. 5) before traveling to Macomb on Sunday... The Crusaders have scored one goal in the past three matches and two goals total in 2014... The Crusaders are 0-1-3 overall, with the three draws coming in the previous three matches... Valparaiso has secured draws against IUPUI, Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona... All three goals both scored and conceded by the Crusaders have come in the second half...  Sarrah Ludwig and Vanesa Abad have scored one goal each for Valparaiso... Robin Wenzel and Grace Rogers have recorded assists... Sydney Galvez-Daley has allowed three goals through four starts... SERIES HISTORY: The Leathernecks will look to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to the Crusaders last season and improve on a 2-8-1 record all-time against Valparaiso... Western Illinois' first victory came in 2000, a 1-0 victory in Macomb while the second came in 2006, a 3-2 win.

LAST TIME OUT: The Fighting Leathernecks dropped a pair of road contests to Loyola-Chicago and Creighton over Labor Day Weekend... Western kicked off the weekend with a 4-0 loss to Loyola in Chicago on Friday (Aug. 29) night... A much improved Leatherneck side fell by the same score on Monday (Sept. 1) to Creighton, despite having multiple chances in the match.
