Non-Conference Play Concludes as Leathernecks Welcome Panthers

Western Illinois plays host to Northern Iowa on Sunday (Sept. 28) at 1 p.m.

MACOMB, Ill. - Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer wraps up a three-game homestand and non-conference play on Sunday (Sept. 28) when the Panthers of Northern Iowa come to Macomb. The Leathernecks (1-8) have won seven of the last nine matches against Northern Iowa (3-5-2). The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

MATCH NOTES:
A LOOK AT THE PANTHERS: Northern Iowa plays host to South Dakota State on Friday (Sept. 26) before making the trip to Macomb for Sunday's match...  Brady Clark has scored a team-high two goals in seven starts...  Charlotte Jones has added one goal and two assists in 2014... The Panthers have scored nine goals this season from eight different goalscorers... In net, Whitney Blunt has allowed 15 goals in 958 minutes while recording two shutouts... Northern Iowa has losses to Iowa, Green Bay, Wisconsin, UC-Riverside and South Dakota this season along with draws to North Dakota and Cal State Bakersfield... James Price is in his sixth year at Northern Iowa.

SERIES HISTORY: Western Illinois leads the all-time series 8-3-3... Since 2005, the Leathernecks have won seven of the last nine matches against the Panthers... Last season, Western Illinois and Northern Iowa met twice with Western grabbing two victories... In the Green Bay Phoenix Invitational, Western Illinois defeated UNI 2-1 before Western went on the road to defeat Northern Iowa 2-0... Tyra Markey, Sarah Hall and Skyler Jessop scored in the 180 minutes against the Panthers last year... Sloane Levin finished off the fourth goal for the Leathernecks. 

LAST TIME OUT: Skyler Jessop's 11th minute strike gave Western a 1-0 lead over Green Bay but the Phoenix equalized just four minutes later... The Leathernecks had multiple chances to take the lead, but Katy Pilarzyk made four saves to keep the Leathernecks from going in front... Victoria Kappel made four saves for Western Illinois, but it was a late defensive mistake that allowed the Phoenix to leave Macomb with a 2-1 victory.
