Women's Soccer Drops Match to Kansas City

The Fighting Leathernecks fell 3-0 on Friday (Sept. 12).

Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer fell by a score of 3-0 to former conference foe Kansas City on Friday (Sept. 12). Western Illinois is now 1-6 in 2014.

Western Illinois fell behind early, as Kansas City scored in the fifth minute of play off of a volley from the top of the box. Three minutes later, the 'Roos struck again, off a rebound.

Tyra Markey attempted to decrease the deficit in the 17th minute of play but her shot was saved. Skyler Jessop and Abby Moore both added shots, but their efforts went just wide.

The Leathernecks put the 'Roos under pressure in the second half, with Daniela Salinas forcing the UMKC goalkeeper to make another save.  Just one minute later, Western earned a corner, but it was cleared away by the Kansas City defense.

The Kangaroos increased their lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute off a deflected shot.

Western attempted a late comeback, but Moore's chance was off target and Markey had another shot saved.

The Leathernecks return home to face Drake on Sunday (Sept. 14) at 1 p.m. to start a stretch of three straight home matches.
