Leathernecks Look to Bounce Back as Non Conference Play Nears an End

Western Illinois plays Kansas City and Drake beginning Friday (Sept. 12).

MACOMB, Ill. - Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer looks to bring an end to a four-game losing streak beginning Friday (Sept. 12). Western Illinois travels to Kansas City before starting a three-game homestand to end non-conference play. The span of three-straight matches at home begins Sunday (Sept. 14) when Drake visits Macomb. 

Western Illinois ends non-conference play with three consecutive home matches. Drake, Green Bay (Sept. 21) and Northern Iowa (Sept. 28) all travel to Macomb as preparations continue for Summit League play. The Leathernecks begin conference action at North Dakota State on Oct. 3.

MATCH NOTES:
A LOOK AT THE KANGAROOS: Following a 12-win 2013 campaign, the Kangaroos are experiencing a similar start in 2014... Currently at 2-2-2, the 'Roos, were 3-2-1 through six matches last season...  Freshman Kara Priest leads the way offensively with three goals and six points while Alyssa Elver and Ellie Chadick both have contributed one goal and two assists (four points)... UMKC has conceded two penalty kicks this season... In goal, junior Nina Tzianos has logged 562 minutes, allowing just under one goal per match... Her 36 saves ranks 15th in the nation... Chris Cissell is in his fourth season at Kansas City.

SERIES HISTORY: As a former Summit League member, the Leathernecks and Kangaroos have met four times... Western Illinois leads the all-time series 3-1, with the lone defeat coming in 2011 in Kansas City... The most recent meeting between the two programs came in 2012, a 4-1 victory for the Leathernecks.

A LOOK AT THE BULLDOGS: Drake travels to Macomb after a contest at SIU-Edwardsville on Friday (Sept. 12)... The Bulldogs are currently in the middle of five-straight road matches and have lost their previous two matches... Drake is led by Rebecca Rogers, Generve Charles and Ashlie Stokes offensively... Rogers leads the team with eight points (three goals, two assists)... Charles has contributed three goals... Stokes has tallied two goals and three assists in 2014... Kylynn Moyer has started five of the six matches in net for the Bulldogs... Moyers has allowed 10 goals through 450 minutes... Haley Morris started the other match and allowed three goals... Lindsey Horner is in her seventh year in charge of the Bulldogs.

SERIES HISTORY: The Leathernecks and Bulldogs have split the series through eight games... After losing four of the first five matches, Western Illinois has won three-straight over Drake, all by the score of 1-0... Western Illinois and Drake have met every year since 2011.

LAST TIME OUT: Western Illinois lost twice last weekend as non-conference play nears an end... The Leathernecks appeared to have the better of Saint Louis on Sept. 5, but a two hour and 45 minute weather delay changed the momentum... Western Illinois allowed three goals in 12 minutes and ultimately losing 3-1 to the Billikens... Western then returned home and dropped a 3-0 decision to Valparaiso.
