DENVER, Colo. – The Western Illinois women's tennis team ended the regular season dropping three matches in Summit League play. The Fighting Leathernecks, playing in a cluster match, were swept by South Dakota State (April 18), host Denver on Saturday and South Dakota on Sunday.
At number one singles, Jenna Wallace dropped her match to Florencia Magni of SDSU (2-6, 3-6). Nicole Jones fell 4-6, 0-6 to Jenny Blackburne of SDSU at number two singles. Wallace and Jones each took a game in their respective singles match versus the Pioneers and USD.
Andriana Johnson lost 2-6, 1-6 at four singles to Ffion Davies of SDSU. She moved up to the number three singles versus Denver and won a game.
Jamee Hale took a game in her match at number six singles against SDSU. She moved up number five singles versus Denver and USD.
Melissa Alger played her first singles match in two months, competing in the number six singles against Denver and South Dakota.
In number one doubles play, Wallace and Jones lost 3-8 to the Jackrabbits, then 2-8 to Denver.
Ese Davis and Alger took a game at number three doubles in the match against Denver and USD.
Western (0-18 overall, 0-6 Summit League) returns to Denver on Friday (April 25) for its opening round match of the Summit League championship. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. central against an opponent to be determined.
