Women Drop Weekend Slate in Iowa


WATERLOO, Iowa Western Illinois women's tennis dropped three matches during a non-conference weekend at Northern Iowa. The Fighting Leathernecks lost 7-0 to North Dakota on Saturday (Feb. 8) then were blanked Sunday by Creighton and the host Panthers. All three matches were played at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.

In her number one singles match to start the weekend against North Dakota, Jenna Wallace lost a close 6-4 first set but dropped the second set 6-1. She and Nicole Jones lost the number one doubles match 6-4.

Jessica Callahan and Andriana Johnson lost 6-2 in their second doubles match while Ese Davis and Melissa Alger lost 6-1 in the third doubles.

Creighton cruised to the victory on Sunday morning, allowing just four games to be won. Nicole Jones in the second singles dropped her match 6-1, 6-2.

Wallace dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to the Panthers' number one player Erica Medlin. Jones was blanked in the first set but lost the second set 6-2. Jamee Hale went 6-1, 6-1 in her number six singles match. Davis and Alger took a game in the third doubles match.

Western (0-5 overall) returns to the court on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15), traveling to Marquette.
