MACOMB, Ill. –
Western Illinois men's basketball downed the Anderson Ravens Tuesday evening (Dec. 30) 74-62 behind double-double performances from Mohamed Conde and Jalen Chapman. It marks the first time two Leathernecks finished with a double double in one game since Jan. 26, 2013 at Oakland.

The Leathernecks head into Summit League play with a 5-6 overall record while Anderson falls to 3-7 on the year.

Anderson held the lead for nearly all of the first seven minutes of regulation before WIU went on a 19-3 run and took a 12-point advantage into halftime, 29-17. The Leathernecks wouldn't allow the Ravens to get within eight points for the rest of the game as Western closed out 2014 with a victory.

Conde finished the game with 12 points and a career-best 18 rebounds, only six boards short of tying the program's single game record. The senior forward shot 5-of-6 from the field and went 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also notched two steals.

Chapman grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with his season-high 15 points. The junior forward made 7-of-9 shots from the floor and made his only free throw attempt. Chapman also had a block, an assist and a steal.

The two Leatherneck forwards combined for a total of 27 points and 28 rebounds, and shot 12-of-15 from the field.

Leading the team in points was Jabari Sandifer who finished with a career-best 16. The Naperville, Ill. native also had five rebounds and four assists in a team-high 36 minutes of play.

Junior guard J.C. Fuller finished with 15 points and four helpers.

The Leathernecks shot better from the field (47.6 percent – 37.0) and the free throw line (73.7 percent – 70.0), but were held without a make from long range (0-for-10) for the first time since Nov. 17, 2012 at Evansville.

Anderson had four players score 10-plus points led by Nathan Gross who finished with a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds).

Western Illinois opens Summit League play at home this weekend, playing host to Fort Wayne Friday night (Jan. 2) at 7 p.m. before welcoming Omaha to LeRoy A. Ufkes Court Sunday (Jan. 4) at 1 p.m.
