#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: Leatherneck Men's Hoops Plays Host to Idaho

Western Illinois plays host to Idaho on Thursday before welcoming Alabama State to Macomb on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leathernecks men's basketball team welcomes the Idaho Vandals to Macomb Thursday night (Dec. 11)... Western Illinois and Idaho are scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. on LeRoy A. Ufkes Court inside Western Hall.

UP NEXT: WIU plays host to Alabama State on Saturday inside Western Hall before traveling to Memphis to face the Tigers on Dec. 23... The Leathernecks then conclude the nonconference portion of their schedule at home on Dec. 30 against Anderson (Ind.).

THROWBACK THURSDAY: "Western Hall will take a trip back in time. Any way you choose, we want to see your best throwbacks, as our Leathernecks take on the Idaho Vandals! Brush off your leg warmers and bell bottoms, or bring out the jersey you wore when you were in your prime. If it's a throwback, Leatherneck Athletics wants to see it - Thursday night! The first 100 WIU students in attendance will receive a FREE t-shirt! It's THROWBACK THURSDAY Leatherneck Nation!"

A LOOK AT IDAHO: Idaho, members of the Big Sky Conference, enter Thursday's game with a 4-3 overall record... The Vandals won their first two games of the season againstEastern Oregon (77-65) and South Dakota State (82-77) before losing three consecutive to Northern Illinois (67-78), Boise State (75-86) and Northern Kentucky (74-79)... UI has most recently won back-to-back, winning at Washington State (77-71) and downing UC Davis (79-71)... Idaho was selected to finish third in the conference with 97 points in the poll, and two first-place votes... Mike Scott (17.1), Connor Hill (13.4) and Sekou Wiggs (12.3) led the Vandals in scoring... Scott also leads Idaho in assists (36) and steals (9), and only has three turnovers on the season... Bira Seck has pulled down a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game... Idaho is coached by Don Verlin who is in his seventh season at the helm and owns a 101-99 record.

LEATHERNECKS VS. VANDALS SERIES HISTORY: Western Illinois and Idaho have only played each other once... The meeting was last year's season opener with the Vandals winning 67-63.


FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD: Western Illinois is in the midst of a five-game stretch that includes teams that were picked either first, second or third in their respective conference preseason polls... WIU recently dropped two nonconference games on the road, at Akron and at Cleveland State... Akron was selected to finish first in the Mid-American Conference with 117 points (17 first-place votes)... Cleveland State was selected to finish second in the Horizon League with 335 points (9 first-place votes).... This week WIU plays host to Idaho and Alabama State... Idaho was picked to finish third in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll with 97 points (2 first-place points)... Alabama State was picked to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference with 106 points (4 first-place votes)... After WIU's back-to-back home games, the Leathernecks travel to Memphis to face the Tigers... Memphis was picked to finish third in the American Athletic Conference with 82 points.

TEAM LEADERS: Sophomore Garret Covington and Tate Stensgaard are the only two Leathernecks to have started all seven games this season for the Leathernecks... Covington also leads the team in points per game (16.4), minutes per game (29.6), field goals made (36), three-pointers made (19), free throws made (24), three-point field goal percentage (45.2) and free throw percentage (80.0)... Stensgaard also leads the team in field goal percentage (57.9) and defensive rebounds (24)... Jalen Chapman leads the team in rebounds per game (5.3), offensive rebounds (15), blocks (5) and steals (9)... Jabari Sandifer leads the team in assists per game (4.3).

CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH A TRIPLE: Sophomore guard Garret Covington has made a three-pointer in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season. The streak of triples started when the Leathernecks played host to William and Mary last season on Jan. 4, 2014.

ESPN3: Western Illinois is slated to play four more games that will air live on ESPN3... The Leathernecks already played on ESPN3 twice this season, at UIC (Nov. 17) and at Cleveland State (Dec. 7)... The Leathernecks' next game scheduled to air on ESPN3 is Dec. 23 game at Memphis...
