Trenton Norvell Named MVFC Offensive Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Western Illinois sophomore quarterback Trenton Norvell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) matched his career-high touchdown performance at Youngstown State, and was selected as the Missouri Valley Football Conference 'Offensive Player of the Week' on Sunday (Oct. 12).
 
Norvell, twice last year selected as the MVFC 'Newcomer of the Week', helped Western pick up its third road win dating back to the 2011 season and first against a 'Top 10' ranked team since the 2008 campaign.
 
He completed 19-of-26 passes for 291 yards and four TDs with no interceptions at the 10th-ranked Penguins. Norvell also picked up 32 yards on 10 carries as Western won for just the fourth time ever at Stambaugh Stadium.
 
It's the third time in Norvell's career he threw four touchdown passes, and second occasion this season. With 27 career touchdown passes, the sophomore quarterback overtook 10th place on the WIU career 'Top 10' listing.
 
Western (3-4 overall, 1-2 MVFC) plays host to No. 15 Illinois State (last week ranking) this Saturday. Kickoff at Hanson Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
