INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Fighting Leatherneck volleyball fell to the IUPUI Jaguars, 3-0, on Friday evening (Oct. 4) in Indianapolis. Western falls to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in league play after the loss, while IUPUI improves to 7-11 overall with a 1-2 record in The Summit League.
The Jaguars took the opening set 25-18 to begin the match. The set was back-and-forth until midway through when IUPUI used two separate three-point runs to take a lead they would not lose.
The second saw IUPUI never trail from the start as the Jaguars won 25-17 to go up 2-0 in the match. IUPUI carried their momentum into the final set and earned a 25-14 victory, and took the match for their first conference victory of the season.
Ann Miller and Samantha Fournier led the way for Western with 10 kills each. Fournier also led the Leathernecks defensively, recording eight digs in the match.
Sarah Fetter notched 27 assists to lead the Leathernecks. Fetter now has 2,768 career assists and is just 173 away from moving into sole possession of 4th-place on the career assists list.
The Leathernecks will continue their Summit League road trip tomorrow evening (Oct. 5) with a match at Fort Wayne. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (CT) at Hillard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
