MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer program visited a nationally ranked Milwaukee (9-1) program on Friday night. Western Illinois (6-3) fell 4-0 to the Panthers at Engelmann Stadium.
Milwaukee controlled the momentum for the entire match as evidence by the 16-2 shot advantage Milwaukee had after the first frame.
The shots started to find the back of the net in the second half.
Milwaukee scored in the 54th, 58th, 67th and 74th minute to cruise to the shutout victory.
The first and last goals were a result of penalty kicks.
After 90 minutes of action Milwaukee held onto a shot advantage of 31-6 and 13-1 in corner kicks.
Junior Kellie Julius attempted three shots, freshman Trisha Quinn had two shots on goals and freshman Gina Scaffidi also had a shot on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Victoria Kappel (6-3) made a season-high eight saves on Friday night.
The Purple & Gold will open up Summit League play in Vermillion, S.D. and welcome South Dakota into the conference with a 4 p.m. clash on Friday.
