RESULTS (Milwaukee)

MADISON, Wis. - The Western Illinois Women's Tennis team dropped a pair of matches to Wisconsin and Milwaukee on Sunday, Feb. 20 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Fighting Leathernecks (1-6) first faced off against the Wisconsin Badgers at 9 a.m. and fell by a 7-0 score. Western then battled the Milwaukee Panthers at 5 p.m. and dropped a 7-0 decision.

Against Wisconsin, the doubles teams of sophomores Marcela Brandao/Jill Furlong (No. 1) and juniors Amy Unzicker/Claire Griffin (No. 2) both fell 8-2. Meanwhile, senior Melissa Kaufmann and freshman Madison Zimmerman lost 8-1 at the No. 3 position.

The Fighting Leathernecks dropped every singles match in straight sets. Brandao highlighted the effort by taking two games at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-1) and Unzicker won a game at the No. 3 position (6-0, 6-1). Freshman Kara Chicoine made her second singles appearance of the season and fell 6-0, 6-0 to Caroline Bauer at the No. 6 slot.

Against Milwaukee, juniors Amy Unzicker/Claire Griffin had the best doubles result in an 8-2 defeat at the No. 2 position. In singles action, Brandao played well in a 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 1 and Unzicker took three games in the first set of a 6-3, 6-0 defeat at the No. 3 position.

Western Illinois is off next weekend and will return to action with a dual match against in-state rival Northern Illinois on Saturday, March 5. The Fighting Leathernecks will travel to DeKalb, Ill. for a 1 p.m. contest with the Huskies.
