MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois (2-3) women's basketball fell to Milwaukee (1-3) inside Western Hall on Saturday (Nov. 26), 79-66, behind three Panthers scoring in double-figures and a 45 percent (30-for-67) clip from the field.
Lindsay Carroll led the Leathernecks' offensive attack with a career high 18 points including a 4-for-8 performance from behind the arc. Despite out rebounding the Panthers, 49-45, Western could not sustain a second half rally, which tied the game at 39-39.
After the first five minutes, the two teams were tied after a Valencia Kelly layup made it 9-9. The Panthers and Leathernecks traded baskets before Milwaukee went on a 12-0 run during the next four minutes.
Jackie Rieger scored four points in four seconds to cap a 6-0 run by the Purple & Gold that shrunk Milwaukee's lead to 29-21 at the 4:23 mark. She drove and scored before stealing the inbound pass and adding two more points with another easy bucket.
A three-pointer from Angela Rodriguez with time running out in the first half made the halftime score, 37-27.
Western shot 30 percent (11-for-37) from the field in the first half and did not make a three-pointer on 13 attempts. Sadie Webb led the Leathernecks with seven points and seven boards.
Milwaukee turned in a 43 percent (15-for-35) performance from the field and converted four three-pointers. Ashley Green paced the Panthers with nine first-half points.
Western opened the second half with a five-point flurry, which included baskets from Rebecca Henricson and Michele Salvatori and a free throw from Brittany Demery. After the mini run Western trailed 37-32 with just a minute off the clock in the first half.
A jumper from Rodriguez gave Milwaukee a 39-32 lead with 19:04 remaining in the game. A 7-0 run, capped by a deep ball from Carroll, tied the game at 39-39 and brought a roar from the crowd at the 17:28 mark.
The deficit remained around five for the majority of the next six minutes until Green gave the Panthers a 50-42 advantage with a layup. Carroll hit another three-pointer to bring Western back within five at 50-45 with 13:39 remaining.
Five would be as close as the Leathernecks would get as a 15-2 run from the Panthers decided the game over the next six minutes. A three-pointer from Kiki Wilson capped the run and gave Milwaukee its biggest lead of the night at 65-47 with 7:43 left in the game.
Western would go on a 7-2 run to cut the Panthers' lead to 12 at 67-55 but the Panthers would continue solid execution and extend the lead back to 16 with just under three minutes left in the game.

Along with Carroll's 18 points, Webb turned in another double-double with her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring performance dating back to last season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Salvatori pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to match her career high. Coming into the afternoon contest Salvatori was second in the Summit League with 9.3 rebounds a game. Kelly dished out five assists, which matches her career-high.
Milwaukee got 18 points and seven boards from Green on 8-for-10 shooting from the field and a 2-for-3 performance from behind the arc. Rodriguez turn in 16 points while Sami Tucker collected a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.
The home stand continues for the Leathernecks as Summit League play opens with South Dakota State visiting Western Hall on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m.
