MACOMB, Ill. - Junior Nathan Bruinsma scored in the 22nd minute off a Daniel Lewis
pass to lift the Western Illinois men's soccer team past Oakland, 1-0,
on Senior Day. The Fighting Leathernecks improved to 8-5-1 overall and
3-1 in the Summit League with the victory.
Bruinsma now has three goals on the season while Lewis collected his first assist. Senior goalkeeper Andy Ryan made five saves and picked up his seventh shutout of the season.
Saturday's contest was the last home match for nine Leatherneck soccer players, including: goalkeeper Andy Ryan, defenders Kooten Johnson, Kevin Ross, Adrian Loyocano and Antonio Katic, and midfielders Daniel Lewis, Matt Lewandowski, Mariano Leo and Alexis Dominguez.
Western Illinois is
back in action next Saturday (Oct. 29) against UMKC. The match from
Kansas City, Mo. is slated for a 7 p.m. CT start.
