Leathernecks play host to Braves in midweek matchup

MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women's basketball team will step back into non-league action when it plays host to in-state rival Bradley at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Western Hall.

The game marks the third of a season-long five game home stand for the Fighting Leathernecks. The team will also face William Woods (Dec. 11) and Judson (Dec. 19) before hitting the road for five-straight.

Previously vs. Centenary: Western Illinois picked up its first win of the season with a 68-55 victory over Centenary on Saturday... Sadie Webb tied a career-high with 15 points... Valencia Kelly scored 13 and Michele Salvatori scored 11... it was Salvatori's fourth-straight game with 10 or more points... the Leathernecks grabbed a season-high 17 offensive boards... Western Illinois forced 28 turnovers which it converted into 25 points... the Leatherneck bench outscored the Centenary bench by an 18-2 margin.

Previously vs. Oral Roberts: The Leathernecks dropped a heartbreaker to Oral Roberts last Thursday... Jaci Bigham hit a floater from the elbow as time expired to down Western Illinois, 68-66... Valencia Kelly scored a career-high 16 points... Jackie Rieger set a new career-high with 15 points... Michele Salvatori (12) and Sadie Webb (10) each hit double-digits... the Leathernecks held Kevi Luper to just 13 points... The Summit League Preseason Player of the Year had been averaging over 25 points per game entering the contest... the Leathernecks held a 32-24 advantage at the half... Western Illinois forced 16 turnovers in the first half.

Last Time Out Against Bradley:
Western Illinois fell to Bradley by a 90-77 scored when the teams last met on Nov. 20, 2006... four Leathernecks scored in double-figures in the contest... Bradley holds a 22-11 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs... Western's loss in 2006 snapped a three-game winning streak in the series... the Leathernecks picked up a 57-54 win the last time the teams met in Macomb on Nov. 30, 2005.


Scouting The Braves: Bradley enters the week on a two-game winning streak... the Braves defeated Saint Louis by an 81-64 scored on Saturday... Katie Yohn scored 26 points in the contest... Bradley shot a blistering 61.7 percent from the floor against the Billikens... the Braves also defeated Milwaukee, 72-70, in overtime last week... Bradley also has wins over William & Mary, Eastern Illinois and Butler this year... the Braves losses have come at then No. 22 Iowa, Illinois and Arizona.

Leathernecks Picked Seventh in Summit League: Western Illinois was picked seventh in the 2010-11 Summit League preseason poll... the Leathernecks return six players from last year's squad... Western tied Southern Utah for seventh place with 162 points in the poll... Oral Roberts was picked first with 438 points and 26 first place votes... South Dakota State was selected second with 393 points and four first place votes... Oakland (336 points), IPFW (285) and North Dakota State (274) rounded out the top five... UMKC was picked sixth with 253 votes... IUPUI and Centenary were selected ninth and tenth, respectively.

Record Watch: Steals: Anne Borgertpoepping finished last season with 64 steals... Borgertpoepping has recorded 104 steals while at Western Illinois... she needs 33 more steals this season to move in to a tie for 9th place in program history for career-steals.

Webb Steps Up:
Sadie Webb showed up big in her first two Summit League contests as a Leatherneck... the junior scored 15 points against Centenary and 10 against Oral Roberts... Webb currently leads the team with .451 shooting percentage, including a .400 mark from beyond the arc... she has scored in double-figures three times this season... she is also 8-for-10 from the charity stripe in her last two outings.

Hitting The Glass: Western Illinois set a season-high with 43 rebounds against Centenary on Saturday... it was the highest rebounding total for the Leathernecks since they grabbed 51 boards in an overtime win over IPFW on Feb. 1, 2010... the 17 offensive rebounds were the highest mark in that category since Western grabbed 19 in a win over Centenary on Feb. 13, 2010.

Kelly Hits Career-High:
Valencia Kelly also set a new career-high last week... the junior guard went 7-for-16 and scored 16 points against Oral Roberts... she also hit double-digits with 13 points against Centenary... Kelly currently leads the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game... she has scored in double-figures in four of the team's first seven games.

The Leathernecks continue their stretch of non-league games at home. Western Illinois will face William Woods (Dec. 11) and Judson (Dec. 19) before hitting the road for five-straight.
