CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- Senior Zi Wang recorded the only point of the day as the Western Illinois women's tennis team fell on the road against Creighton, 6-1.
Wang won at the No. 3 singles position, defeating Nicole Nakaoka in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (10-8), 6-3. It was the first singles win for the Westerwinds (0-2) in the 2009 season. Senior Kim Lennartsson also found herself in a decisive third set at No. 2 singles, but dropped the match, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles play, juniors Stephanie Baumer and Yana Meinert were the lone victorious Western team. Playing at the No. 3 doubles spot, Baumer and Meinert beat Kelsey Schmidt and Lauren Mastro by a score of 8-3. However, the Blue Jays won at the top two doubles spot to take the doubles point.
The Westerwinds are off until a Valentine's Day matchup against Green Bay at 11 a.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
