FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Western Illinois women's tennis team finished The Summit League cluster with a pair of losses against Oral Roberts and IPFW at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center.

"We always knew this was going to be a tough day of matches for us," said Western Illinois head coach Michael Hunt. "Give credit to Oral Roberts and IPFW, but I don't think they got our best matches."

In a rematch of last year's conference championship semifinals, Oral Roberts (9-9, 8-0 The Summit League) defeated the Westerwinds (11-11, 5-3 The Summit League), 4-2.

With only the singles matches being played, Western was only able to claim victories at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles positions. Sophomore Amanda Griffin defeated Emily Arkell, 6-1, 6-2, to win her second singles match of the weekend. Sophomore Ashley Clark also won her second match of the weekend, beating Tayler Pippen, 7-5, 6-4.

In the afternoon match, the Westerwinds fell to league newcomer IPFW, 4-2. Clark and freshman Kate Kennedy won the only doubles match for Western, 8-1, over Alexa Rag and Hanna Hager. However, the Mastodons won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to win the point.

In singles play, junior Zi Wang won her first singles match of the weekend after her two previous matches were pulled off court with Wang leading. Wang defeated Stacy Lish, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Yana Meinert won the other point for Western, downing Molle Carpenter in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2.

"We'll try to get healthy and go out and try to get the next weekend," stated Hunt.

The Westerwinds head back to Fort Wayne, Ind., with a rematch in the semifinals of The Summit League championship against Oral Roberts, April 25.
