Peoria, Ill.- The Western Illinois women's tennis team drop its match against in-state rival Bradley, 4-2, at Markin Courts.
The match, that was originally scheduled to be played at Brophy Courts, was moved to Bradley after the recent threat on the campus of Western Illinois.
The Braves (3-5) took the doubles point from the Westerwinds (5-8), winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively. Sophomores
Ashley Clark (Waseca, Minn./Waseca/UW-Milwaukee) and
Yana Meinert (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Joliet Township) battled at No. 3 doubles before eventually falling to Erin Krubeck and Kim Braun, 9-7. The No. 1 doubles match was unfinished.
Junior
Kim Lennartsson (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Katrine Lund Gymnasium/Southern Mississippi) was victorious at the No. 2 singles spot, defeating Bradley's Kelly Donohue, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman
Kate Kennedy (Pekin, Ill./Community) won the other point for Western by defeating Krubeck, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
The Westerwinds continue their six-match home streak with three matches at Brophy Courts this weekend. Saturday, March 29, Western will host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 9 a.m., and Upper Iowa at 3 p.m. The Westerwinds will turn right around and play Southeast Missouri, Sunday, March 30, at 9 a.m.
