MACOMB, Ill. - Senior
Ashley Hoch (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) recorded two goals and assist for Western Illinois as they defeated Oral Roberts, 3-1, at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
"Overall, I was happy with the performance of the entire team," said Western Illinois head coach Tony Guinn. "Jessica Walsch played very well for us in the poor (windy) playing conditions."
In the 11th minute of play, freshman
Nora Potempa (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) found Hoch running down the left side of the field who recorded her first goal of the match when she kicked the ball just inside the post to make the score 1-0.
Hoch would score again in the 27th minute off a deflected kick from sophomore teammate
Jill Kevorkian (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) for her seventh goal on the year.
In the 50th minute, the Westerwinds (7-8-2, Summit League 3-4-0) would score again as freshman
Nora Potempa scored her second goal on the year as she headed the ball into the net off a cross from Hoch. Junior
Keeley Murray (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) recorded the second assist on the play as she set up the Hoch cross to Potempa.
Oral Roberts (5-9-1, 2-5-0) would get a goal of their own in the 84th minute on a penalty kick from Maria Grados.
Sophomore goal keeper
Jessica Walsh (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Massapequa Rascals United) made seven saves in the match for the Westerwinds.
The Westerwinds will close their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1 against North Dakota State at noon at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. The match is the first game of a soccer double header at John MacKenzie Alumni Field with the men's soccer team facing IPFW at the conclusion of the women's match.
