Leathernecks drop match, 1-0, to IUPUI

Indianapolis, Ind.  -  Freshman Arthur Paszkowski (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Lord Beavercreek) took three shots in the match, but it was not enough as Western Illinois was defeated by IUPUI, 1-0, on Oct. 18 at Michael A. Carrol Stadium.

"We did not play particularly well," said Western Illinois head coach Dr. Eric Johnson. "We had the ball quite a bit in the match, but just could not find a way to score. We will get back together this week and get ready for our next game against Centenary."

The only goal of the match came in the fourth minute of play by IUPUI's Ben Heidari who scored his second goal of the season off a cross from 18 yards away on an assist from teammate Cameron Williams.

In the second half, the Leathernecks (9-4-2) took five more shots than they did in the first half, but fell short in finding the back of the net to tie the match.

In the match, the Leathernecks were out shot by the Jaguars (7-5-2), 12-9 and took two less corner kicks.

Junior Stephen Paterson (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada/Sir Winston Churchill) made four saves and allowed one goal in the net for Western.

The Leathernecks will have a week to rest before they head to Centenary on Friday, Oct. 24 for a conference match up at 7 p.m. at Mayo Field.
