MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women's soccer team had its 14-match unbeaten streak at home snapped after a 2-0 loss to Creighton at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

"They were a good team, but I thought we played pretty well," said Western Illinois head coach Tony Guinn. "You can't give up easy goals in soccer and that's what we did today. We gave up two easy goals and it was too much for us to come back from."

The Blue Jays (10-4-0) got on the board first in the 10th minute of the game when senior Marcy Gans recorded her 12th goal of the season. Gans took a shot from 30-yards out that hit off the hands of Westerwinds' (5-6-2) goalkeeper Jessica Walsh (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), went over her head and into the back of the net.

"It's hard to recover when you give up a goal in the first ten minutes of the game," stated Guinn. "You get down on yourself, but we continued to play hard."

The game would remain at 1-0 until the 72nd minute of the game when sophomore Emily Orbell gathered a rebound a blasted and shot past sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Tyk (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay). The insurance goal was Orbell's fourth goal on the season.

Sophomore Jill Kevorkian (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) led the Western's offensive attack with three shots, including one on goal. Senior Ashley Hoch (Brookfield, Wis./Central) added two shots with one being on goal.

The Westerwinds return to Summit League action this weekend with a match at Oakland Friday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match at IUPUI Sunday, Oct. 19.

"We're going to take the players that are playing well and give us a chance to win," said Guinn. "Those players are playing well right now and will have an impact this weekend."
