Both Western Illinois track and field squads recorded fifth-place finishes as it completed competition at the Big Blue Classic hosted by Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.The women finished fifth with a score of 94.50, while the men also finished fifth with a score 56.00. Indiana State won the men's side with a score of 299.00, while Illinois State took the women's side with a score of 184.00.Also finishing up competition at the 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays were seniors Jennifer Gilson and Aubrey Martin. Gilson finished fifth with a personal-best toss of 53'10.25" (16.41m), improving her third-place mark on Western's all-time list. Martin took eighth with a mark of 51'05.75" (15.69m).At Eastern Illinois this afternoon, sophomores Ashley Yancy and Amy Zaffino recorded third-place finishes in their respective events. Yancy took third in the triple jump with a distance of 37'08.00" (11.48m) and also finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 16'10.75" (5.15m). Zaffino finished third in the discus with a personal-best throw of 143'00.00" (43.59m). Senior Audra Bark recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100 meter dash (12.15) and the 200 meter dash (25.23), while freshman Faith Chew tied Chrissy Wainwright for second on Western's all-time pole vault list with a personal-best vault of 10'11.75" (3.35m). The women's 4X100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 55.13, rounding out Western's top-five finishes.Also recording personal-bests in today's competition were sophomore Heather Wetzel in the long jump (6th, 17'03.25"/5.26m) and in the 200 meter dash (7th, 25.97), freshman Mary Kate Jackson in the 1,500 meter run (4:55.98), freshman Joni Cross in the triple jump (9th, 33'01.00"/10.08m), senior Rebekah Brunner in the 1,500 meter run (12th, 5:01.64), sophomore Mary Scott in the long jump (13th, 15'04.00"/4.67m) and freshman Melanie Goranson in the discus (13th, 101'02.00"/30.85m).Sophomore Adam Sacasa led the Leathernecks with a personal-best time of 22.10 in the 200 meter dash and also finished eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.99. Junior Sean Delahunt took third in the shot put with a toss of 53'04.50" (16.27m) and also recorded a 17th-place finish in the discus with a throw of 133'07.00" (40.73m).
