Western Illinois women's basketball student-athlete Emily Clemens (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) has been selected as this week's WIU Hampton Inn Scholar Athlete of the Week.
The junior point guard racked up a double-double of 20 points and 10 assists in WIU's 78-65 road win over Kansas City (Nov. 22) and helped her team get off to a 5-1 start, it's best since 2005-06. On Sunday's 76-74 win at SIU-Edwardsville, Clemens recorded 24 points, six rebounds and four assists. With 1:22 left on the clock, she hit three consecutive free throws along with a pair in the final three seconds of the game to steal the win.
The Muscatine High School product averaged 22 points, seven assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in her previous two games. Clemens maintains a 3.641 GPA in marketing.Â
The Leathernecks return to action Tuesday (Nov.29) at Missouri. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT) and will stream live on SEC Network+. Fans can also tune into the Leatherneck Sports Network, which will be broadcasted through WVIL 101.3 F.M.
