The Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October, Corey Moody set a new personal-record in the 8K at The Summit League Championships. The sophomore from Minneapolis scored a 26:57.0 time to finish 26th, the best of any male Leatherneck. That personal-best followed a meet on Oct. 12 at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria in which he ran a 27:57.1 in the 8K, at the time a career-record.
What is the best part about competing at Western Illinois?
The best part about competing at Western are my supportive teammates. Our cross country team supports one another during workouts and races. It makes it easier to compete my best when I am nervous. No matter how I perform, they are always there with uplifting words. The team is consistently growing also, and every teammate is an important piece of the puzzle.
What is your pre-race routine?
Before every race I have to listen to music with my Beats headphones. I like to listen to G Herbo before the race because his music gets me pumped up. After, I do a 15-minute jog before stretching and dynamics with the team. Lastly, I say a quick prayer at the starting line while holding my cross necklace in my mouth.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
One of the best pieces of advice I received was from my high school coaches. They said, "Every practice you are adding money to the piggy bank and on race days you enjoy the money."Â
If you had one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why?
Easygoing because I am able to adjust to changes with a relaxed mindset.
What has been your favorite part of being in Macomb?
The supportive people on the track and cross country teams. Also Chick's on the Square.
What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is the Four Agreements by Don Ruiz. It helps to change the way I think of negatives and turn them all to positives.
What are your plans for after graduation?
My plan after graduation is to attend grad school and get my MBA.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a professional track athlete and compete in the Olympics.
What is your favorite TV show or movie and why?
My favorite movie is 4 Minute Mile. It is my favorite movie because the main character Drue Jacobs is confronted with many difficult situations, but he doesn't let them stop him from breaking four minutes in the mile run.
