Senior women's golfer Jessica Knepp (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley) was named Papa John’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday (Sept. 15) for her performance on the course and in the classroom. The award is the first of Knepp's WIU career.
Knepp led the Western Illinois women's golf team this past weekend, putting together a career-low score of 146 and earning first-place in the 2014 WIU Invitational. The senior shot a 75 in round one before firing a career-best 71 (-1) in the second round. The invite victory was the first of her career.
The Fighting Leathernecks have competed in two invites this fall. Knepp, who has been in the top five for both, owns a stroke average of 78.4 on the season nearly five strokes better than her career average of 83.2.
