Western Illinois women's basketball player Ashley Luke (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) has been named Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week Monday (March 2)Â Â for her performance on the court this past week, and continued success in the classroom.
It was announced on Thursday, February 26, that Ashley had been named the Capital One Academic All-America of the Year for Division I women's basketball, as presented by CoSIDA. Luke, a third team Academic All-America a season ago was picked out of five first team candidates to be named Academic All-America of the Year this season.
This past week, Luke recorded a pair of double doubles en route to helping Western Illinois earn the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Summit League Tourmanemt. Against South Dakota State, Luke tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and a pair of blocks. The junior then followed with an 26-point, 11-rebound effort against South Dakota. Luke's pair of double-doubles give her 20 on the season, including the last 10 games, while Luke extended her streak of games in double figures to 66-straight consecutive games.
Luke graduated in December with a 4.0 GPA and degrees in Political Science and Journalism. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Political Science.Â
