Luke Duball was named a Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete for August. The senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has made 64 appearances (62 starts) in his Leatherneck career, a number which will continue to rise as the season progresses.

What’s the best part about playing for WIU?
“The best part about playing for Western Illinois is the people I have met here. I have met so many great friends and my teammates here are like family.”

If you could give one piece of advice to someone hoping to play collegiately someday, what would you tell them?
“The best piece of advice I would give to someone who is looking to play collegiately is to continue working hard to get better. There is always room to improve and get better especially when you take the step up to college. You don’t want to look back and wish you would have started being more serious.”

What’s your favorite non sports-related hobby?
“My favorite non-sports related hobby is computer programming. That is mostly what I do in my free time and really enjoy programming graphics-related projects.”

If you could have dinner with three guests of your choosing, who would it be and why?
“If I could have dinner with three guests of my choosing it would be Elon Musk, Pep Guardiola, and Arsene Wenger. I think Elon has a really interesting story between all of his different projects and it would be really cool to learn more about them. The second two are both soccer managers who I really respect. I think it would be very interesting to hear their perspectives on soccer and how they see the game.”

Do you have any hidden talents?
“My hidden talent is that I am good at painting. I took some classes in high school and enjoy doing it every once in a while.”

How would your friends and family describe you as a person?
“I think my friends and family would describe me as someone who is really driven and caring. I think they would say that I am always there to help them if I am needed.”

Why did you choose your current major?
My current major is computer science and I am currently getting my master’s degree. I choose this major because I got into programming when I was younger by creating mods for Minecraft. I also liked that there are so many different things you can do with the major.”

Dogs or cats?
“I am a dog person. We have a family dog back home in Cedar Rapids. He is a cockapoo and his name is Milo.”

If Rocky (the school mascot) could talk, what do you think he would say?

“If Rocky could talk, I think he would just cheer on the Leathernecks. Maybe yell a few “Go NECKS!” at the games.”
