Zach Schoonaert began his role as Director of Compliance in December of 2025. Before arriving at WIU, Zach worked at the National Consumer Bankruptcy Rights Center as a legal assistant supporting bankruptcy litigation work.
Zach graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School with a Juris Doctor. While at Wisconsin Law, he spent time in the Consumer Law Clinic, where he represented debtors in wage garnishment matters. He also spent a summer in the Kenosha County District Attorney's Office.
Schoonaert earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Political Economy from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, where he was a four-year member of the baseball team and worked as an Undergraduate Assistant in Athletic Communications.
In his free time, Zach enjoys sand volleyball, playing trivia, and watching sports documentaries.
