Dwight Sanders brings an extensive background in collegiate softball, combining a proven record of competitive success with a strong commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the field.
A 2016 graduate with a degree in Business Administration, Sanders later earned an MBA from CSU Pueblo in 2021. His coaching career has included successful stops at the junior college and NCAA Division II levels, where his teams and student-athletes have consistently achieved success in the classroom and on the field.
During his first coaching stop, Sanders spent five seasons building a program that compiled a 114-76 overall record. His teams earned two Top 25 national rankings, reaching as high as No. 14 and No. 22, while making five postseason appearances. Under his leadership, the program produced 12 All-Region selections and 37 NJCAA Academic All-Americans while maintaining one of the strongest academic profiles in the country, finishing with a Top-5 team GPA of 3.71.
The program also set several offensive records during his tenure, including a school-record .417 team batting average and a school-record 163 stolen bases.
Sanders then moved to the NCAA Division II level, spending two seasons at Fort Lewis College before joining UCCS, where he has spent the past three seasons. Across his five seasons at the Division II level, his teams have recorded 128 victories while producing numerous conference, regional and national honorees.
His student-athletes have earned 24 All-RMAC selections, three D2CCA All-South Region honors, seven RMAC Player of the Week awards and two RMAC All-Tournament selections. His programs have also excelled academically, producing three All-RMAC Academic First Team selections, 20 RMAC Academic Honor Roll recipients, three CSC Academic All-District honorees and one NCAA Second Team Academic All-American.
At UCCS, Sanders has helped lead one of the most productive offensive stretches in program history. The Mountain Lions set a school record with 137 stolen bases and established program marks for hits in a season with 564 and hits per game at 10.25.
During the 2026 season, UCCS ranked among the top offensive teams in NCAA Division II in nearly every major category, including 10th in hits and slugging percentage, 11th in runs per game and stolen bases, 13th in RBI and triples, 18th in doubles and among the national leaders in on-base percentage. The team also proved to be one of the toughest offenses to strike out in Division II, recording just 115 strikeouts in 1,584 at-bats.
Over the past two seasons, Sanders has helped guide UCCS to back-to-back 30-plus win seasons, marking just the fifth and sixth such seasons in program history and the program's first since the 2004-07 stretch. The Mountain Lions also finished third in the RMAC Tournament in both 2025 and 2026.
