Meredith Witherell was announced as the Leatherneck women's tennis interim head coach, effective Wednesday, March 1.  Witherell takes over the Leatherneck program from Shawn Hyden, who announced his resignation earlier this season.
 
Prior to accepting the head coaching position with the Leathernecks, Witherell served as the head men's and women's coach at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois from 2017-2020.  Under Witherell Knox College earned the Midwest Conference Sportsmanship Award for the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons. The Prairie Fire men's program had its best season in 10 years during the 2020 campaign.
 
Witherell currently is the owner of The Tennis Bug in Galesburg and serves as an official for the United States Tennis Association as well as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. She is also certified with the United States Professional Tennis Registry.
 
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College in Psychology, Witherell received her Masters in Gerontology from Western Illinois University.
