Charlton Zimmerman was named Director of Golf at Western Illinois University in 2025. A native of Almont, Michigan, Zimmerman brings a strong background as both a collegiate golfer and coach, with experience at the Division I level and in the golf industry.
Zimmerman spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware, where he assisted with recruiting, travel logistics, and academic monitoring, while also coordinating practice and skill development sessions. He played a key role in alumni and donor relations for the Blue Hens’ golf program. Prior to Delaware, Zimmerman served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of South Alabama, where he oversaw strength and conditioning programs. During his tenure, the Jaguars won two tournaments and earned seven top-three finishes, including a third-place showing at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championship.
In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Zimmerman has held roles as a non-PGA assistant teaching professional at Harbor Point Golf Club (Mich.), assistant general manager at Bruce Hills Golf Club (Mich.), and personal trainer at LA Fitness.
As a student-athlete at Roosevelt University (Ill.), Zimmerman was a four-time letter winner in golf, a three-time team captain, and president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He graduated with a degree in sustainability and environmental science and went on to earn master’s degrees in public administration from Delaware and in educational leadership and administration from South Alabama.
Zimmerman is committed to fostering excellence both on and off the course, focusing on competitive success, academic achievement, and building strong community ties within the Leatherneck program.
