Western Illinois University Athletics

After a stellar playing career, Mike Lamphear joined the Leatherneck Football coaching staff as an offensive assistant working with the offensive line. Lamphear worked out with the Chicago Bears during their 2011 training camp before being released.

Lamphear helped pave the way for a Leatherneck offense that finished last year third nationally in total offense, 13th in passing offense and 11th in scoring. He blocked for quarterback Matt Barr who finished second in the Walter Payton Award balloting.

Lamphear is working towards his degree in Physical Education.


2010 (SENIOR): First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference... Offensive Lineman of the Week by the MVFC... played and started in all 13 games for the Leathernecks... helped the offense finish third nationally in total offense, 13th in passing offense, 11th in scoring and 23rd in rushing offense... finished his career with 37 starts, most among the active Leathernecks at the time.

2009 (JUNIOR): Played and started in all 11 games... named Offensive Lineman of the Week by the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

2008 (SOPHOMORE): Started all 11 games at right tackle.

2007 (FRESHMAN): One of five true freshmen to earn a letter... started at right tackle against both Indiana State and Youngstown State... appeared in every game except the season opener at either tight end or offensive line...  did not record any statistics... named to the Gateway Conference Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year starter at offensive tackle... named to the West Suburban League Gold Division All-Conference Team... earned honorable mention status on the Daily Herald's All-Area list... ended his senior campaign with 27 pancake blocks... also played defensive end and outside linebacker... played two years of baseball, wrestled one year, and was a member of the track and field team for one year... played for coach Jim Kirwan and Dan Daly.

PERSONAL: Son of John Lamphear and Shelly Lamphear... born January 2, 1989 in Palos Hills... No. 1 sports highlight was playing outside linebacker against Anthony D'Astice in high school... his HS coach Dan Daly has been a major influence, "For getting me to college and my offensive line coach here for giving me the opportunity."... most admires NFL quarterback Brett Favre, "Even though everyone hates on him he is doing something that he loves and continues to do it."... his cousin Scott Kavanagh played quarterback at Wisconsin... enjoys fishing, outdoor activities and being involved in sports... favorite professional teams are the Chicago Bears, White Sox and Blackhawks... favorite music group is OAR.
