Kevin Almlie returns to Western Illinois for his second coaching stint with the Fighting Leathernecks. Almlie rejoins head coach Mark Hendrickson's staff as an assistant coach in charge of the cornerbacks.

Almlie spent the 2011 season as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern, working with the defensive backs. He coached one all-conference performer, Brian Rodgers, who finished among the national leaders in interceptions.

During the 2010 season Almlie was part of the Leatherneck Football program that returned to the NCAA playoffs after a seven year hiatus, advancing to the second round. He worked with a secondary unit that led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in passing defense, good for 23rd nationally. That year safety Ryan Davis was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team.

In 2009 he assisted with the secondary, a group led by All-America cornerback Patrick Stoudamire. That defensive unit ranked among the 'Top 50' nationally in passing defense.

He served as a student assistant coach during the 2008 season while he finished his degree requirements. A two-year starter at free safety for the Leathernecks, Almlie ranked second among the defensive backs recording 50 tackles during his senior year. He earned the Coaches' Appreciation Award that year. During his junior year Almlie ranked 10th among the conference interception leaders.

A native of Novato, California, Almlie twice earned All-Conference honors at Santa Rosa JC and led his high school to the conference title and California North Coast championship.

Almlie earned his bachelor's degree in broadcasting from WIU and worked towards his master's degree in communications.
