Biography

SENIOR (2011): Caught one pass in the opener at Sam Houston State but was held to minus-1 yards on the reception... got one carry against Jacksonville and scored a touchdown from a yard out... career-long 18-yard pass reception in the win... took a short kickoff at Missouri and logged a 5-yard return... missed the rest of the year with an injury... received the Coaches' Appreciation Award following the season.

JUNIOR (2010): Honorable Mention All-Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC)... Honorable Mention Academic All-MVFC...

Received the  Academic Excellence Award from the MVFC... set a career-high scoring two touchdowns in the Valparaiso win... caught an eight-yard touchdown pass and ran one in from four yards, the only two touches he had in the game... carried twice against Indiana State for 20 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run... caught a team-leading two passes in the win totaling six yards... caught two passes for 18 yards at North Dakota State... caught a four-yard touchdown pass at South Dakota State, his second career touchdown reception... one-yard rush in the win over Youngstown State... caught an eight-yard pass and got the team on the board first at Missouri State with a one-yard touchdown run... caught a four-yard pass with the win at Coastal Carolina in the first round of the playoffs... played at Appalachian State in the playoff game.

SOPHOMORE (2009): Honorable Mention All-MVFC... received the Academic Excellence Award from the MVFC... played in 10 games and started the first six... rushed for 17 yards and a touchdown in the win over Sam Houston State... nine rushing yards and two catches totaling 10 yards at Northern Illinois... season-highs of nine rushing attempts totaling 38 yards against Southern Illinois, and caught a 12-yard pass... 13 rushing yards and five-yard catch against Youngstown State... 19 all-purpose yards against North Dakota State and 12 versus Illinois State... caught three passes for 13 yards at Northern Iowa... recorded 22 rushed for 83 yards on the year.

REDSHIRT-FRESHMAN (2008): Received the a spot on the MVFC Academic Honor Roll... Appeared in all 11 games, starting against Indiana State... carried the ball once for four yards and caught one pass for five yards at Indiana State... also had a 25-yard kick return against the Sycamores.

FRESHMAN (2007): Redshirted... named to Gateway Conference Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned five All-State honors during his two-year career... collected 176 tackles, 46 for loss, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two blocked punts... had four touchdowns and a school-record of 24 career sacks... two-time All-Conference and All-Metro honoree... named to the 2006 Des Moines Register Elite All-State list... registered 96 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 16 sacks and scored three touchdowns as a senior... played for coach Randy Scott... also lettered three times in soccer.

PERSONAL: Son of Bill and Marla Gabelmann... born May 29, 1989...father was a defensive end at Northern Iowa (1976-77) and brother Zack was a linebacker at Iowa (2002-06)...his dad has been a major influence, "For always being there for me."... most admires coach Kevin Freking, "He always pushed me."... enjoys video games... favorite professional team is the Chicago Bears.
