A 20-year coaching veteran, Doug Patterson joined Western Illinois' football staff in the spring of 2020. The North Dakota native previously coached St. Cloud and Minot State to numerous school records and will bring his talents to WIU as its offensive line coach.

Patterson's esteemed career included a 13-year stint at St. Cloud, where he helped the Huskies to NCAA playoff appearances in 2010, 2011, and 2013. As the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, he guided 31 offensive linemen to All-NSIC honors, while also establishing school records in total points scored, total touchdowns scored, pass efficiency, pass completions, yards per pass, total offensive yards, and total offensive yards per game.

He is a Minot State graduate and four-year letter winner and returned to his alma mater in February of 2000 to take on the role of offensive coordinator. In seven years on staff, his Beaver tenure included a Dakota Athletic Conference championship title (2002), an NAIA playoff appearance (2002), and three first-team All-Americans. Patterson's offense set school records in total offense as well as single-season marks in individual passing, receiving, and rushing. Success also carried into conference accolades with DAC 10 records in total offense, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

Patterson received a bachelor's degree in social science. He and his wife Kristi have three children, Kade, Camden, and Keegan.
