David Rocco joined the Leatherneck coaching staff in January 2016 and currently serves as the team’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Under his guidance as the wide receivers’ coach, Western turned in a standout 2016 season, with the passing game ranking 17th in the nation on 269 yards per game. He coached Lance Lenoir, Jr., who finished his career as the Western Illinois record holder in virtually every season and career standard. Lenior finished the year earning First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and Second Team All-American honors.

Lenoir signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys during the off-season and joined Joey Borsellino as two of the top wide receivers in program history.

Rocco spent the previous three years at Richmond, first as an offensive intern and quality control assistant coach before getting promoted to Director of Player Personnel in April 2015. In his recent role, Rocco assisted with the football operations staff and recruiting, while serving as an assistant to the offensive staff and working with the quarterbacks. After the 2015 season, Richmond finished ranked third nationally and finished with more than 3,600 passing yards.

Before working at Richmond, Rocco was a student assistant at Liberty, assisting with video operations and serving as a quality control analyst.

At Liberty Christian Academy, Rocco was a two-year starter at wide receiver and defensive back and was part of the 2007 VISAA state championship team.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2013 and his master’s degree in sport administration from Liberty in 2015.
